Gaps in life expectancy

Life expectancy is the average number of years a person can expect to live given current mortality rates. On average, both men and women resident in Hale Barns can expect to live 8 years longer than men and women living in Bucklow-St Martins. The scatter plot below shows that deprivation accounts for some of the variation seen in male and female life expectancy at ward level. The negative association indicates that life expectancy tends to be lower in wards with higher levels of socio-economic deprivation.
